Seeing: Brian Wilson

For as long as I can remember I have loved the Beach Boys.

They represent a happier piece of my childhood.  I remember listening to them on my parents' stereo from my toddler to teenage years.

When Trace first asked me to go see Brian Wilson, I must've been crazy, because I turned him down. What was I thinking? I think because I only knew the Beach Boys as one singular group, I must've been underwhelmed by the thought of just seeing one of them.  But that was before I understood his story, before I watched Love & Mercy.  I'm so glad Trace encouraged me to go with him, because it was amazing to see Brian in person. Not only having an appreciation for his music, but a greater appreciation for him overcoming those difficult years in his life.

Music can transport you. Sitting in Bluesville, watching Brian Wilson, I was transported to the past, where I can remember dancing in my parents' living room and loving the song Kokomo. I also could hear the influence he's had on Trace, because there were parts in the songs where I thought to myself, "This sounds like something Trace would do."

Needless to say, the concert was awesome. The venue felt very intimate. I was touched and swimming in the blessing of being able to witness a music idol perform.
