Day 5: Morning Beignets

We got up early for one last Cafe Du Monde run.

I sadly ordered our last order of beignets and listened to the man with trombone playing in front of the cafe.

Day 4: Benedicts

On Tuesday, we woke up, got dressed quickly, and headed to The Ruby Slipper Cafe around 8:30 in the morning. This was the earliest we woke up while in Nola and I was not adjusting. I looked hung over—even though I wasn't! (T and I don't drink, so we were the soberest peeps there!) The Brits in the elevator thought I was, and so did the staff at cafe—I had puffy eyes and I just couldn't get with it. I just never wake up and go without coffee and a shower.

There wasn't enough of a walk from the hotel to the cafe to give me a real chance to wake up, but once we sat at the bar and I got a cup of coffee I started feeling more like a human instead of a grumpy caveperson. I looked around, admiring the walls, the decor, and the patrons, and I could imagine this being a place I would come regularly for breakfast if I lived in that part of the city. Nice, open, bright—felt good to sit and just be.

For food, I got the Corned Beef Bennie and the Hot-Smoked Salmon Bennie. T got the Chicken St. Charles and Eggs Cochon Bennies. Let me tell you, T's were so good though my favorite out of the four was the Corned Beef Bennie, because of the horseradish cream—yum!

Day 3: Beignets x 2

It was easy to wake up Monday morning, because I was so excited about the day ahead. Plus there was breakfast waiting in the hotel dining area, and there is something about waking up to fresh, hot food and coffee that brings me so much joy.

T and I went straight for the bagels and waffles. I toasted my bagel, layered it and my waffle with peanut butter and enjoyed a cup of coffee as we watched the passing traffic outside.

Day 2: Gumbo & Catfish

Day 1 of vacation was spent in Myrtle with T's family. It was a good day full of family and good food. We stayed the night, so Day 2 of vacation, we started out in Myrtle. I didn't take many pictures this day, and even though I regret it a little bit, it was really nice not to be attached to my phone to capture the moments.

I reminded myself in the moment to remember the patio-sitting, the sun shining, the company, the laughter, and the coffee.

We sat out front with T's parents, aunt, and cousin, just enjoying the morning. The hour came when it was time to leave, and we jumped on the road.

Now, even though there was great company, there was no breakfast and so I was starving. This is when I realized T and I desperately need to work on communication. I thought it was pretty clear that we would stop by a Wendy's and grab a bite for the road- but as we drove further and further with no Wendy's in sight, my hangry started to show.

There was not any fast food for 2 hours. I know, because I was counting.

We finally made it to a Wendy's and I scarfed it down in about 2.3 seconds. I was better after that, and we continued to listen to a podcast about Hitchcock, and it was sad to listen, realizing he never really got the recognition he deserved. How many of us go through life without the deserved recognition? A lot of us, and the famous have the same struggle.

T's parents had told us about Middendorf's, so we stopped there and had some awesome gumbo and catfish. I was too full to enjoy the catfish, so we packed it up and continued on to our hotel.
