The day started out with another casual morning. I am loving just being able to relax.
When L got home from work, we decided on Vietnamese and picked a place named Lotus Restaurant. Where it is, there were parking meters that you could pay by using an app on your phone. On. Your. Phone. No quarters, no swiping your card. It was pretty awesome. Get with it, Memphis!
I got the pho with beef and hot jasmine tea. Y’all, I am so a tea lover. This appreciation for tea has really developed in the last couple of years. This tea was so good, subtle but still strong flavor. The pho was good too. I may even say it topped my favorite place in Memphis, eep!
From Lotus, we went to visit the iconic Minneapolis spoon in the Walker Sculpture Garden. It was beautiful, but it was freezing outside! We made it to take pictures with the wind whipping around us, got some decent shots (and that’s being kind) and headed inside to the museum.
I learned one very important thing on this adventure and it’s that I have little appreciation for modern art. To me, all it is, is distortion and curse words. I definitely did not understand any of the exhibits and there was a terrifying room that traumitized me for life. I think it was meant to focus on the decay of modern life and how none of the material things we buy will matter in a century, BUT all I got was “I’m going to die in this dark room where there are no lights and very creepy sounds.”
The other thing I didn’t care for at this museum was that the cureators were EVERYWHERE. Watching us, basically babysitting us and I felt like I couldn’t even begin to try to enjoy what was around me, because they were so uncomfortably close. And it was a slow day so it wasn’t like there were a million people between us and them. We were the only people in the exhibits sometimes. So nay nay.
The experience did redeem itself for me though, because tucked away in the gift shop was a perfect, soft, charcoal grey modal scarf. I did not bring a scarf with me to Minneapolis (rookie move on my part), so I ended up buying it for part souvenir, part I don’t have any good neutral scarves at home that don’t shed all over my clothes. Yay for now having a scarf I can wear without having to carry a lint roller with me.
After the museum, we headed to Milkjam Creamery, where we savored a flight of ice creams. We chose Poppin’ Bottles, Thai Tea, Plot Twist, PB vs. Everybody. I loved, loved, loved Plot Twist which was almond ice cream with chocolate covered honeycomb and almonds.
From there, I made L take pictures with me against a mural. This is definitely something that has been on my wish list and I am glad that I loved the background and was there with my best friend! I coerced her into taking a picture too, so I’m glad we’ll have that memory—eating really delicious ice cream and then being forced against her will to do something hip-stery.
We also stopped at Goodwill to create a Halloween costume for L, which we did and it’s perfect. I also ended up finding an Anthropologie sweater by Moth—the Vallon cardigan—for $6.99. This sweater is so soft, made from wool so it’s warm, and it isn’t black so I can hide some of Sophie’s dog hair, heh. We also stopped by Home Depot to see if they had fire crystals, but they did not, so we went on our way home.
Our night ended with some really yummy pizza from Crescent Moon Bakery and hot gourmet tea from The Spice Merchant (I think) over at L’s friend’s house, where we watched Despicable Me 3 and enjoyed a warm fire. Being in front of a crackling fire made me want to desperately force T to get someone out to look at our fireplace, because really, what’s the point of having one if you can’t enjoy it?
Where have you been at your most coziest lately?
